KZ AS24 Pro: 24 balanced armature in-ear monitors for musicians who play live

The KZ AS24 Pro are wired in-ear monitors that use balanced armatures only: twelve per side, 24 in total, with no dynamic driver. They have a 3D-printed resin shell with a metal faceplate and a detachable silver-plated 2-pin cable. They come in a standard version and a tuning-switch version, both with or without a microphone.

They are designed for musicians who want to hear themselves clearly in rehearsal and on stage. With 24 balanced armatures, twelve per side, they separate each instrument in the mix very well, which helps when you play live at high volume on stage.

They are worn with the cable over the ear so they stay put while you play, and the 2-pin cable is detachable: if it breaks, you replace the cable, not the earphones. By sealing the ear canal with the ear tips they reduce the noise of the rehearsal room, so you don't have to turn the volume up as much to hear your part. They plug into an IEM bodypack, the headphone output of the mixing desk or your phone through a 3.5 mm jack.

  • 24balanced armatures, 12 per earpiece
  • 29 Ωimpedance (standard version)
  • 109 dBsensitivity (±3 dB)
  • 2versions: standard and with switches

Sound

Sound: 12 balanced armatures per side

Each earpiece houses twelve balanced armatures split by frequency: four dual 31736 units for the treble and upper treble, two 29689 for the mids, one 30019 for the treble and one 22955 for the bass. According to KZ, they are armatures designed for hi-fi earphones, not adapted from hearing aids.

The standard version has an impedance of 29 Ω and a sensitivity of 109 dB (±3); the tuning-switch version ranges from 20 to 50 Ω and from 109 to 114 dB (±3) depending on the switch position. Both run straight from a phone, laptop or music player.

Versions

Standard version or tuning-switch version

The standard version has a fixed tuning. The tuning-switch version (“Tuning”) adds four switches on each earpiece, which act on an electronic filter:

  • Switch 1: raises the bass one step.
  • Switches 1 and 2: raise the bass two steps.
  • Switch 3: lowers the upper treble one step.
  • Switches 3 and 4: lower the upper treble two steps.

With all switches off, it plays with its base tuning.

Design

Design and fit

The shell is 3D-printed resin made with DLP technology, with a margin of error of 0.01 mm according to KZ, which allows the internal sound channels to be reproduced precisely. The faceplate combines resin and metal with a faceted, cut finish.

They are worn with the cable routed behind the ear. Three pairs of silicone ear tips in different sizes are included to get the right seal for each ear.

Connection

Silver-plated cable and microphone version

The cable is high-purity silver-plated copper and measures 120 cm (±5 cm).

It attaches to each earpiece with a standard gold-plated 0.75 mm 2-pin connector, so it can be replaced if damaged or swapped for another cable. The same connector lets you go wireless with a KZ Bluetooth adapter that is compatible.

Wireless mode with a Bluetooth adapter is for listening to music; to monitor yourself while you play, use the cable, which has no latency.

The microphone version adds a single-button in-line remote:

  • Single press: play or pause, and answer or end a call.
  • Long press: reject a call.
  • Double press: next track.
  • Triple press: previous track.

KZ AS24 Pro frequently asked questions

Can they be used as in-ear monitors for playing live or in the rehearsal room?

Yes. Worn with the cable over the ear and with the right ear tip size, they reduce the noise of the rehearsal room. The usual setup is to plug them into an IEM bodypack that receives a send from the mixing desk, so each musician gets their own mix; you can also plug them into the headphone output of the desk.

And for listening to music or gaming?

Yes. Although we recommend them mainly for playing, they work just as well for listening to music on your phone or computer and for gaming. Wired, there is no latency.

What is the difference between the standard version and the tuning-switch version?

The standard version has a fixed tuning. The tuning-switch version lets you raise the bass and tame the upper treble, in two steps each.

How do they differ from the KZ AS16 Pro?

The KZ AS16 Pro uses 8 balanced armatures per side; the AS24 Pro uses 12, with a 3D-printed shell and a tuning-switch version.

Do the KZ AS24 Pro have noise cancellation?

They have no active noise cancellation. They are in-ear earphones with silicone ear tips, which passively block outside noise by sealing the ear canal.

Do they work with phones that have no headphone jack?

Yes, with a USB-C or Lightning to 3.5 mm jack adapter, or with a 0.75 mm 2-pin Bluetooth adapter.

What warranty do they come with?

3-year warranty against manufacturing defects, handled from Spain.
